Corey Goldberg: Owner, Founder
Corey created Island Fish & Reef based on the idea that Long Island did not have a company with a business model designed to handle everyone from large businesses to the aquarium hobbyist in a one-stop shop environment that would be able to take care of everything from concept to completion; including aquarium service such as aquarium installation, stocking, and maintenance. Corey prides himself on running Island Fish & Reef based on honesty, integrity, and superior customer service and support. He was graduated with his MBA in 2000 while working full time for the Long Island Rail Road. Corey work at aquarium service for over 16 years. Corey is happily married with two amazing kids and one crazy chocolate lab.
Christopher Downs: Owner, Lead Aquarium Technician
It’s easy to find Mr Downs caring for a great number of clients’ aquariums–whether they be residential, commercial, or institutional. With strong roots in caring for planted and reef aquaria he can–and does–affectionately care for all things aquatic. Due his commitment, skills, experience, and superior work ethic, Downs rose through the ranks to become the Lead Aquarium technician and co-owner of Island Fish & Reef. Moreover with a vast knowledge of marine and reef aquarium technology that spans over 10 years, Downs enjoys keeping up with the constantly changing technical aspects of the industry ranging from lighting and controllers to remote monitoring to insure immediate response to almost any unpredictable situation. He is a native Long Islander. Downs retired from the United States Army in July of 2010 after serving 2 years.
Todd Sawn: Aquarium Technician
Bringing over 20 years of experience to the table, Todd’s knowledge and problem solving skills of aquarium maintainence service and installation have proven to be immeasurably valuable to Island Fish & Reef. Indeed, he has extremely good education in many areas. For example, he particularly relating to planted and reef aquaria. Todd spent most of his life in Lake George, New York. Since a childhood, Todd fascinated with aquariums. So he knew from an early age that he wanted to make this his career. In 1994, while putting himself through school for architecture, Todd started an aquarium maintenance business. And, in 2002, Todd opened a retail saltwater specialty aquarium shop in upstate New York. After many years, Todd sold his business and relocated to Long Island to add his experience to the team at Island Fish and Reef. To this day, Todd maintains his residency in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate NY. That is why he commutes each week, seven hours each way to maintain relationships with valued clients.
Max Lisitsyn: Aquarium Technician
Max specializes in modifying filtration systems to optimize performance. Since joining the company more than one year ago, he has proven to be a great addition to the team. So Max’s current role with Island Fish & Reef allows him to utilize his experience to successfully maintain all types of aquariums on a daily basis. Originally from Moscow, Russia, Max graduated with his Masters Degree in Animal Science at The Russian State Agrarian University- Moscow Agricultural Academy. More importantly, upon graduation, he worked at The Russian Scientific Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography as an agricultural engineer. Max has spent the last 18 years installing and maintaining both freshwater and marine aquariums. He describes himself as “very jolly”. Max came to The United States with his wife, Vera, and son.
Vera Lisitsyna: Fishroom Manager
Vera is a valued member of the team at Island Fish & Reef. Her primary role of fishroom manager highlights her expertise in acclimation as well as the care and treatment of fish, coral, and invertebrates. Because of her level of education and experience clients receive the healthiest animals for their aquariums. Vera is our Fish Doctor from Moscow, Russia. As Max She graduated with her Masters Degree in Animal Science at The Russian State Agrarian University- Moscow Agricultural Academy. After graduation, Vera worked as an agricultural engineer at a large experimental sturgeon fish farm in Russia at the VNIRO. Furthermore, Vera has published many articles relating to aquariums, anemones, arowanas and fish disease. In addition, Vera opened an internet aquarium shop and was the founder & operator of a charity fund for disabled children in Russia. Vera is Max’s wife and they have a teenage son Tom.
